Renegade is the favored horse entering this year's race, and with good reason.

The three-year-old colt has competed in five races entering Churchill Downs, with two wins and multiple runner-up finishes, according to his Kentucky Derby profile.

A speedy horse, thanks to father Into Mischief, he has also proven that he can be a distance runner, a trait his mother's side passed down to him.

His secret weapon is trainer Todd Pletcher, a two-time Kentucky Derby winner who has started over 60 horses in the most prestigious race in the sport. Pletcher has also had tremendous success at other Triple Crown races, the Belmont Stakes being his most successful one with four wins.

A detail-oriented trainer, he will have Renegade ready to outrace his competition and contend in the final leg of the race for the win.

That Irad Ortiz Jr. will be jockeying for Renegade only helps his chances as the 33-year-old has tremendous timing, with the ability to pull horses to his level and win races that they otherwise may not.

An elite trainer, a skilled jockey, and some of the most dazzling abilities of his peers make Renegade a difficult horse to pick against.
