Jets' Sadiq Says Shedeur Sanders Getting Prank Called Resulted in Reaction Seen on Trending Video

Tight end Kenyon Sadiq explained Saturday why he thought he may have been getting prank called when the New York Jets selected him with the No. 16 overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft on Thursday night.

Sadiq's phone conversation with the Jets went viral, as he said, "I was thinking this might be a prank call for a second," when speaking to Jets head coach Aaron Glenn:

Per ESPN's Rich Cimini, the former Oregon standout said Saturday that his fear of a prank call stemmed from something that happened with quarterback Shedeur Sanders during last year's draft.

"That was just my biggest fear, with Shedeur and all that stuff that happened with him," Sadiq said. "It's such a moment full of so many emotions. It'd be kind of not fun to get a prank call and stuff like that. But, no, obviously the call and everything was amazing."

Last year, Sanders fell all the way to the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL draft, but at one point he believed he was being selected by the New Orleans Saints.

Someone posing as Saints general manager Mickey Loomis called Sanders and told him they were drafting him, but it turned out to be a prank.

It was ultimately found that the culprit for the call was the son of Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, leading to a $250,000 fine being levied against the Falcons, as well as a $100,000 fine going against Ulbrich.

Sadiq's draft call was legitimate, and he will now be tasked with helping to turn around a franchise that has not made the playoffs since 2010.

The Jets were lacking in terms of offensive weapons last season, but with Sadiq and Indiana wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. joining the likes of wide receiver Garrett Wilson and running back Breece Hall, new quarterback Geno Smith will have some talent to work with.
