Carson Beck Talks Potential Cardinals QB Battle With Brissett, Minshew After NFL Draft Pick

Carson Beck looks forward to the opportunity to compete with Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew II for the Arizona Cardinals' starting quarterback job after being taken in the third round of the 2026 NFL draft.

Asked by reporters if the Cardinals indicated to him that could compete for the No. 1 spot on the QB depth chart, Beck took a very diplomatic approach with his response:

"I haven't even stepped into the facility yet. My approach to this whole entire thing is being myself, being the best player that I possibly can be and just trying to take advantage of every single opportunity that I'm given. I'm super grateful. I don't know what that will look like. I'm not sure what's going to happen in the future, but I know for sure that I'm going to step in there and try to take advantage of every opportunity I can and just put my best foot forward each and every day."

The Cardinals used the first pick in round three (No. 65 overall) to add Beck to their quarterback room. They had been connected to players at the position leading up to the draft, though a lot of the projections had them landing Ty Simpson either by trading back into the first round or early in the second round.

Simpson surprisingly came off the board to the Los Angeles Rams with the 13th pick in round one, so the Cardinals had to pivot if they were interested in him.

Beck wound up being the the third quarterback off the board, after Fernando Mendoza at No. 1 overall and Simpson.

Brissett's future with the Cardinals is unclear after general manager Monti Ossenfort declined to name anyone the starting quarterback when the team reported for their voluntary offseason workout program last week.

It was also notable that Brissett wasn't in attendance, with NFL.com's Ian Rapoport noting he is holding out for a contract extension that pays him something closer to starter money.

Brissett will make $5.44 million in 2026 under his current deal, less than Minshew will earn ($5.8 million).

The addition of Beck into the fold gives head coach Mike LaFleur another quarterback he can evaluate throughout the offseason and training camp. B/R's NFL scouting department compared him to Kenny Pickett in its scouting report.

Beck threw for 11,239 yards, 82 touchdowns and completed 69.8 percent of his attempts in his three seasons as a full-time college starter. He helped Miami reach the College Football Playoff Championship Game last season.
