Carlos Alcaraz Withdraws from 2026 French Open at Roland-Garros with Wrist Injury

Scott PolacekApr 24, 2026

There will be no three-peat for Carlos Alcaraz at Roland-Garros this year.

Alcaraz announced Friday he will not participate in the 2026 tournament because of a wrist injury.

"After the results of the tests carried out today, we have decided that the most prudent thing to do is to be cautious and not participate in Rome or Roland Garros as we wait to evaluate the progress so we can decide when to return to the court," he wrote on Instagram. "This is a difficult time for me, but I am sure we will come out of it stronger."

Alcaraz was forced to withdraw from the Barcelona Open because of the injury despite reaching the quarterfinals and then pulled out of the Madrid Open.

His absence will now continue at one of the year's biggest events.

"I'd rather come back a little later and with a full recovery," he told reporters Monday while explaining he was going to undergo additional tests prior to making a decision about Roland-Garros. "I need to take care of myself because I want to have a long career."

Alcaraz is 22-3 this year with two titles, one of which came at the Australian Open. His victory over Novak Djokovic in the final gave him a career Grand Slam and a seventh major title in what is already an illustrious career at 22 years old.

Two of those seven major championships came in the last two years at Roland-Garros after he reached the semifinals in 2023.

He defeated Alexander Zverev in the final of the 2024 tournament and then beat Jannik Sinner in a thrilling five-set final last year. Three of the five sets against Sinner went to a tiebreaker.

That was just the start of their high-profile showdowns during the 2025 season, as Sinner defeated Alcaraz in the final of Wimbledon in four sets before Alcaraz returned the favor and won the final at the U.S. Open in four sets.

Tennis fans were surely looking forward to another potential Grand Slam final between the two of them at Roland-Garros, but their next matchup will have to wait thanks to this injury.
