Sean McVay Talks Jimmy Garoppolo NFL Retirement Rumors, Possibility of Rams Drafting a QB
Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay is leaving his options open entering Thursday's NFL draft.
During an appearance on ESPN Los Angeles on Thursday, McVay acknowledged that veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is considering retirement and addressed the possibility of drafting a quarterback this year.
"We do our work on all these positions," McVay said, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. "Whether you're saying it's a [Fernando] Mendoza, it's a Ty Simpson, it's a [Garrett] Nussmeier, it's Carson Beck, there are a lot of guys that are going to be good players in this draft and if we feel like it fits for us, you consider it. But we are still hopeful and optimistic that you give Jimmy his time, maybe he'll have a change of heart. I think the best thing you can do ā you never want to force somebody to do something. He's earned the right to be able to walk away on his terms and it's been an amazing career."

Every Team's Biggest Draft Needs š
Rams star quarterback and reigning NFL MVP Matthew Stafford is entering the final year of his contract, and Stetson Bennett is currently the only other quarterback on the roster. While it sounds like Garoppolo would be welcomed back, it would make sense for the Rams to consider adding a signal-caller with one of their seven draft picks.
B/R's NFL Scouting Department predicted that the Rams would use the No. 13 pick to select Miami offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa. McVay and company could use a later pick to target one of the quarterbacks in this year's class and bolster the team's depth heading into the 2026 campaign.
