Backstage WWE and AEW Rumors on Brock Lesnar, MJF, and More

Erik BeastonApr 23, 2026

On the heels of a buzzworthy WrestleMania 42, the pro wrestling rumor mill is running overtime, with updates on top stars, none bigger than Brock Lesnar.

The Beast Incarnate stunned the wrestling world Sunday night when he seemed to announce his retirement after losing to Oba Femi, but insiders suggest Lesnar may have one more match in him before he hangs up his gloves for good.

Dive deeper into that topic and more, including MJF's status after his recent AEW World Championship loss to Darby Allin, in this collection of rumors.

Latest on Brock Lesnar's Retirement

Brock Lesnar stunned the wrestling world moments after losing to Oba Femi at WrestleMania 42 when he removed his shoes and gloves, left them in the ring, and embraced Paul Heyman, an act that appeared to signal his retirement.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio reported there are those in WWE who do not believe Lesnar is retired, despite how it may appear. He added that The Beast is still to call it a career this year.

The former WWE and universal champion has a Hall of Fame-worthy resume, with wins over The Rock, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Kurt Angle, The Undertaker, Triple H and Randy Orton to his name.

His most famous win came at WrestleMania 30, when he became the first Superstar to defeat The Undertaker on the grand stage, ending his two-decade-long unbeaten streak.

If Lesnar is not yet retired, be on the lookout for a match with Gunther, as The Ring General is owed a favor by Heyman. Known as The Career Killer, the Austrian star would be a logical next opponent for Lesnar.

Update on MJF

Darby Allin squashed MJF to win the AEW World Championship on April 15, beating him in mere minutes after four straight Coffin Drops.

Ibou of Self Made reported MJF is not expected to miss time, and he is not filming a movie. He added: "MJF is scheduled for upcoming Dynamites and will be factored into main event plans for Double or Nothing."

Speculation ran rampant that MJF was taking time off or that management was unhappy with him, hence the sudden championship loss.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported: "We're told by a number of AEW sources that people in the company seemed very happy with his media appearances of late." That appeared to squash any talk of disquiet behind the scenes.

AEW has rarely hot-potatoed its world title outside of an injury, and with Double or Nothing taking place at Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, New York, on May 24, it would not be surprising to see MJF regain his gold on that stage.

Stephanie Vaquer, Liv Morgan Both Banged-Up Entering WrestleMania 42

The Women's World Championship match between Stephanie Vaquer and Liv Morgan was conspicuous for how little time it received on Saturday's WrestleMania 42 card.

BodySlam+ on Patreon reported that both Vaquer and Morgan entered the match carrying injuries, so the decision was made to keep things on the shorter side.

Morgan competed on Monday's Raw against Sol Ruca, who was making her main roster debut, suggesting that the more banged‑up of the two was La Primera, who did not compete on Raw.

Regardless, it was a match that had many fans very excited but did not necessarily live up to expectations, due to its short run time and overbooking.

Luckily, Vaquer's confrontation of Morgan after her victory over Ruca suggests the rivalry is just heating up, setting the stage for the contest we should have had on the grand stage.
