Juan Soto Explains Why He Hasn't Talked to Mets Teammates Amid 12-Game Losing Streak in New Video
New York Mets outfielder Juan Soto is returning to the lineup on Wednesday against the Minnesota Twins after suffering a right calf strain that's kept him out since April 3. New York enters the evening on a 12-game losing streak.
On Wednesday, Soto was asked if he had spoken with his teammates and gave them encouragement while he was out. He provided this response.
Soto hit .355 (.928 OPS) with a homer and five RBI in his first eight games before landing on the injured list.
The Mets were on the road for eight of 14 games before Soto hit the field for some pregame warmups on Tuesday before New York's 5-3 home loss to the Twins.
The Mets have bigger problems than whether or not the Soto spoke with his teammates during their losing streak. For starters, their offense has been struggling mightily. The Mets scored two or fewer runs in nine of their 12 games during the losing streak.
New York's bullpen also has not fared well. In particular, new closer Devin Williams, a two-time All-Star, has a 9.95 ERA through eight games. He allowed his first five baserunners to reach in the ninth inning on Tuesday, turning a 3-3 tie into a 5-3 Twins lead.
The main silver lining right now is that the 7-16 Mets are only 23 games into the season, so there's plenty of time to turn it around. Having Soto back certainly helps.
