New Juan Soto News on Injury Return Timeline for Mets amid 12-Game Losing Streak

Adam WellsApr 22, 2026

Amid their longest losing streak in more than two decades, the New York Mets are getting some much-needed good news with Juan Soto's return to the lineup.

Soto has officially been activated from the injured list and is in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Minnesota Twins.

Soto has been out of action since April 3 when he suffered a strained right calf while running from first to third base in the first inning of a 10-3 win over the San Francisco Giants.

The Mets waited a few days to officially put Soto on the 10-day injured list, though they retroactively dated it to April 4. Their expectation at the time was he would need two to three weeks of recovery time.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters on Sunday that Soto was "on track" to return at some point during their homestand, but he didn't give a definite date.

"Yes, he's still on track," Mendoza said. "Not sure which day, but as of right now, the plan is for him to start playing for us at some point in the next homestand."

The Mets did win their first three games without Soto, but it's been all downhill since April 8. They have lost 12 straight games and have scored two or fewer runs nine times during this streak, which included three shutouts.

At 7-16, the Mets enter play on Wednesday with the worst record in baseball.

Soto was off to a hot start at the time of his injury. The four-time All-Star is hitting .355/.412/.516 in 34 plate appearances this season.
