'I Want to Be the Best,' Caleb Williams Talks Career Goals as Bears Season 'Wasn't Really Anything'

Scott PolacekApr 20, 2026

Some quarterbacks might be satisfied setting a franchise record for single-season passing yards and leading a storied organization to its first playoff win in more than a decade in just his second year in the league.

But not Caleb Williams.

"It was good for me to be able to see, to be able to feel, to go be able to go out there and win games," the Chicago Bears signal-caller told reporters Monday. "But that wasn't my goal. That's not my goal. That's not where I want to be. I want to be the best. I want to go win. I want to be a world champion, a Super Bowl champion. I want to be the best Bear quarterback, the best quarterback.

"So, my goals, that was a good stepping stone for me, but that wasn't the last stepping stone. Being able to grow off of last year and be able to progress in ways that I want to. That last year wasn't really anything. It was a good year, and we have many more good years coming up."

He may have bigger goals, but the 2025 season was an incredible foundation to build from for Williams and the Bears.

After all, he threw for 3,942 yards, 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions while adding 388 yards and three scores on the ground as a runner. He set the record for the most passing yards in a single season in franchise history in just his first year working with head coach Ben Johnson and led Chicago to an NFC North title and playoff win over the archrival Green Bay Packers.

It was the Bears' first playoff win since the 2010 campaign.

The offense also went from 28th in the league in scoring and last in yardage to top 10 in both categories, and Williams directed seven game-winning drives in the fourth quarter or overtime.

None of those comebacks were more memorable than the two against Green Bay. The Bears overcame a 10-point deficit in the final two minutes of their Week 16 clash and then scored 25 points in the fourth quarter to overcome a 21-6 deficit and win their playoff showdown.

Even in the ensuing Divisional Round loss to the Los Angeles Rams, Williams turned in one of the most incredible plays in recent NFL history when he sprinted back and then unleashed a perfectly placed throw into the waiting hands of Cole Kmet on fourth down in the final 30 seconds of regulation to force overtime.

It was something of a magical year for Williams and the Bears, but it was also just the start of consistent contention and excellent numbers if everything goes according to plan.

And Williams' comments suggest he plans on making sure it does.
