New Odell Beckham Jr. Rumors Update Giants Buzz Amid 2026 NFL Free Agency
Free-agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. visited the New York Giants facility for a physical on Monday, according to the New York Post's Ryan Dunleavy and CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones.
In March, Beckham told Kay Adams he was hopeful of returning to the NFL in 2026 and didn't close the door on a reunion with the Giants:
SNY's Connor Hughes cautioned that nothing is imminent:
There's clearly an emotional pull between OBJ and New York. He spent his first five seasons with the team and was a three-time Pro Bowler during that span. Only Amani Toomer has more receiving yards in franchise history.
It's worth asking how much Beckham can help at an NFL offense at this point in his career, though.
The 33-year-old caught just nine passes for 55 yards during a nine-game spell with the Miami Dolphins. Thanks to multiple injuries, his production was falling off before that as well.
Between 2020-23, Beckham had 1,421 yards and 11 touchdowns across 35 games. His 40.6 yards per contest were well below his peak with the Giants (92.8).
During the Fanatics Flag Football Classic, OBJ showed flashes of his old self. That still doesn't exactly prove much in terms of his suitability in an NFL offense.
The Giants are in a rebuild, so they may see Beckham as more of a veteran mentor rather than a player who would help them win right now. Malik Nabers, a fellow LSU product, might particularly benefit from his presence if they share a locker room.
New York still ultimately needs to sign Beckham. It's possible that Monday's meeting leads to nothing.
Fans in the Big Apple are nonetheless going to get excited.
