Trent Williams Signs New $50M 49ers Contract, Updated Salary Cap Ahead of 2026 NFL Draft
Twelve-time Pro Bowler Trent Williams agreed to a new two-year, $50 million contract with the San Francisco 49ers.
His agency, Elite Loyalty Sports, confirmed the deal includes $37 million fully guaranteed.
The new agreement will allow San Francisco to lower Williams' salary cap burden. He was originally slated to count for $46.3 million. Tacking on another year will bring that figure down.
As he gets deeper into his 30s, Williams continues to perform at a high level when healthy. He ranked 20th in ESPN.com's pass-block win rate and sixth in run-block win rate.
Pro Football Focus graded the three-time All-Pro as the No. 20 overall player in 2025 and the third-best tackle.
Father Time will come for Williams sooner or later, but he has been diligent in taking care of his body with an eye toward extending his career as long as he can. He told ESPN's Nick Wagoner in 2024 he had spoken with NBA star LeBron James for advice on maintaining his longevity.
All of that work is paying off, and Andrew Whitworth serves as a recent example of a lineman who kept going until he was 40.
The 49ers are aiming to remain a contender in 2026 after winning 12 games and reaching the NFC divisional round last year, and they have every reason to believe Williams will still anchor the line.
The 37-year-old may have hoped to get a longer extension, but he now has a little more financial security. San Francisco, meanwhile, keeps him in the fold for an additional season, and it gives the coaching staff and front office an opportunity to reassess the partnership before potentially recommitting again.
