If Love lands with the Cardinals at No. 3 as McShay predicted, he would become the first running back drafted in the top five of the NFL draft since the New York Giants selected Saquon Barkley second overall in 2018. B/R's NFL Scouting Department ranked Love as the No. 2 overall player in this year's draft class and predicted that he would be selected by the Titans with the No. 4 pick.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that some around the league feel that Love "could go as high as No. 3 to Arizona and no lower than No. 7" to the Washington Commanders, who have been "pushing to upgrade [their] backfield in each of the past two offseasons." Schefter also noted that the Cardinals ideally "would like to find a team willing to trade up so they can acquire more picks, and there have already been 'exploratory' calls, as one source described it, regarding the No. 3 selection."
However, it won't be easy to pass up on the chance to select Love. The Athletic's Bruce Feldman spoke to one national scout who declared, "I think he's the best offensive player in this draft. I love him." He even drew favorable comparisons to recent first-round picks Bijan Robinson and Ashton Jeanty.
"He's pretty special," an NFL scout said of Love. "Jeanty was a really good back. Has good vision and balance, but (Love) has a different gear. When he makes someone miss in space, he can really turn it on and make home run plays. He's more in the Bijan Robinson category than Jeanty."
"Does he run faster than Bijan? Yeah. Is he as big? Yeah. Is he more physical on contact? Yeah, he is. Jeremiyah Love is always trying to get that extra yard," an NFL personnel director said.
Love's draft slot in Thursday's first round will likely have ramifications on the rest of the board, so the Cardinals hold a significant amount of power with the No. 3 pick.
