Todd McShay Updates Jeremiyah Love NFL Draft Rumors as Cardinals 'Eager' to Trade Down

There are plenty of questions about what the Arizona Cardinals will do with the No. 3 overall pick. Two options are to either trade back and accumulate assets, or stay put and draft Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love.

That's what The Ringer's Todd McShay is hearing, at least.

"I'm told if Arizona sticks [at No. 3], it's Love," he said on his podcast Sunday (22:30 mark). "I'm also told, I don't know if there's a team in the top 10 more eager to move out of that spot than the Cardinals are at No. 3."

More than a few mocks have Love off the board in the top 10, with many linking him to the Tennessee Titans at No. 4, but using a top-five pick on a running back is a rarity in the modern NFL.

In fact, a running back hasn't been selected in the top five since Saquon Barkley went No. 2 back in 2018. So if the Cardinals selected Love at No. 3, it would certainly be a surprise.

Granted, if the Cardinals truly are interested in trading back, they may want teams behind them to believe they'd take a player like Love. That could help set the wheels in motion on trade talks.

Love is the No. 2 overall player on the B/R Scouting Department's latest big board, so he's the type of talent teams may be willing to pay a premium to acquire. And the Cardinals absolutely need more offensive weapons and Love would give them a centerpiece in that regard.

But should a rebuilding team, with holes all over the roster, use such valuable draft capital on a running back? That's the question Arizona will have to answer once it's on the clock, though it will all be a moot point if they find a trade partner (or if the Love rumors are simply smoke screens).
