Guardians' Austin Hedges Proposes to Girlfriend Lexi Dickinson on Field in Trending Photos After Win
It's not often that a convincing victory isn't the most important thing of a given day for a Major League Baseball player.
But that was the case for Cleveland Guardians catcher Austin Hedges on Sunday.
With a little help from the scoreboard, Hedges proposed to his now fiancée, Lexi Dickinson, on the field after Cleveland's 8-4 victory over the Baltimore Orioles:
"I've had the ring since early spring training, but was just trying to figure out when the right time was," Hedges said, per Brian Dulik of the Associated Press. "I was going to do it regardless ... but I really wanted to win that game to make it extra special."
Dulik noted the couple began dating in November 2024.
"I had a lot of nerves today," Hedges said. "I'm always nervous for baseball games, but just trying to stay present, knowing there were some activities after made it harder. It was a special day. A special day to be able to soak it all in."
As for the game itself, Cleveland cruised to the win in large part due to José Ramírez's two home runs. Brayan Rocchio also drove in three runs while going 3-for-4 at the plate.
Hedges scored one of the team's eight runs.
The veteran catcher has been in the majors since 2015 and played for the San Diego Padres, Cleveland, Pittsburgh Pirates and Texas Rangers during his career.
