Sophie Cunningham Dishes on Caitlin Clark, Steph Curry and Mt. Rushmore of Best Shooters in History

Joseph ZuckerApr 19, 2026

Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham put personal allegiances aside when asked to name a Mount Rushmore of the greatest shooters.

Speaking with Hard Rock Bet, Cunningham singled out Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry, Minnesota Lynx star Kayla McBride and legends Ray Allen and Diana Taurasi.

Some may have noticed Caitlin Clark's absence from that list.

"She's too young right now," Cunningham said of leaving off her Fever teammate (via ClutchPoints' Burtland Dixon). "But I think like once her career is over, I mean, she's going to be up there. But like for now, I think those are my four."

It's hard to fault Cunningham's logic.

For all of her obvious talent, Clark hasn't merited consideration as a historically great pure shooter.

Like Curry, the 6'0" guard wasn't afraid to fire away from well beyond the three-point line in her four years at Iowa. She connected on just 37.7 percent of her attempts from deep, though.

Former UConn star Azzi Fudd, the No. 1 pick in the 2025 draft, was a 42.2 percent shooter with the Huskies by contrast.

Clark is still growing as a scorer in the WNBA as well, and that's reflected by her efficiency (40.5 percent overall and 32.9 percent on threes).

McBride (37.3 percent) and Taurasi (36.0 percent) have both been better from long range, and the latter didn't have the benefit of playing in an era that emphasized floor-spacing as much as the WNBA does now.

This isn't to overly criticize Clark. In time, she may place herself among the all-time greats.

She just isn't there yet.
