WWE WrestleMania 42 Night 1 Live Updates, Results and Highlights From Las Vegas
Here is the full live coverage and video highlights of Night 1 of WWE WrestleMania 41 from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
The Match Was Over, but Randy Wasn't
1 of 14After Rhodes was declared the winner, Orton attacked him with the WWE title belt and hit a punt kick. The show ended with The Viper standing over a bloody Rhodes.
Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton (Undisputed WWE Championship)
2 of 14
The main event of night one of WrestleMania was the Undisputed WWE Championship match between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton.
Pat McAfee came out before either of the Superstars and flipped off the crowd. Surprisingly, The Viper had a very simple entrance with no frills.
Cody Rhodes, on the other hand, had a big production for his entrance with statues wearing his old gear and a video showing his history of gimmicks. He came out with an ornate gold jacket and mask.
Cody greeted his daughter and wife at ringside before heading into the ring to defend his title against his former best friend.
Before the ref could begin the match, McAfee attacked Rhodes with a microphone. Orton joined him, but Rhodes sent him into the ring post and hit Pat with a Cross Rhodes.
Jelly Roll arrived just as Cody put McAfee on top of an announce table. The singer hit an elbow drop to put him through the table, and this was all before the bell had even rung.
The match finally got underway after Pat was stretchered away. For as chaotic as the beginning was, it was surprising to see them begin with a standard opening sequence.
Rhodes attempted a Cody Cutter, but Orton caught him and hit his signature backbreaker he used to use in every match. The move seemed to hurt him as much as it did Cody.
The American Nightmare noticed The Viper was favoring his back and began to focus his offense on that area. He spent a long time controlling the pace before Orton tripped him on the top turnbuckle.
The 14-time champion hit a superplex and a powerslam as he began to build up a head of steam.
He got into position for the RKO, but Rhodes pushed him away and out of the ring. Orton brought him out of the ring and dropped him on the announce table.
The Legend Killer was sent into the ring post and busted open, so The American Nightmare stayed on him to capitalize. He even wiped some of Orton's blood on his chest.
The pace slowed way down, and the crowd booed the champion as he hit Orton's signature draping DDT. Randy gave him a taste of his own medicine by hitting a Cross Rhodes for a two-count.
The theft of moves continued with Rhodes hitting the RKO. A few moments later, Orton hit an RKO out of nowhere and almost got the win.
Randy hit an RKO on the ref when he was blinded for a moment. Rhodes stopped a low blow and hit one instead, but Orton hit another RKO.
Pat ran back wearing a ref shirt and tried to count the pin, but Cody kicked out. In a fit of rage, Orton hit Pat with an RKO.
Rhodes came up behind him and hit the Cross Rhodes for the win to retain his title.
WINNER: CODY RHODES RETAINED THE UNDISPUTED WWE CHAMPIONSHIP
The EST Has Arrived
3 of 14John Cena announced 50,816 as the official attendance for night one. Bianca Belair's music hit and the crowd popped big to welcome her back after being on the shelf for a year with an injury.
She said it wouldn't be WrestleMania without some surprises and took off her jacket to reveal she is pregnant. Cena added one more to the attendance numbers to celebrate.
Stephanie Vaquer vs. Liv Morgan (Women's World Championship)
4 of 14
Liv Morgan's entrance for her world title match against Stephanie Vaquer was accompanied by a music video and dance number on the stage.
Several dancers performed with Morgan all the way to the ring as she lip-synced her new entrance music. Vaquer's entrance included thousands of flower petals falling from the sky.
The champion took the challenger down by both legs and started unloading with rights and lefts as soon as the bell rang.
Morgan fought back and hit a powerbomb out of the corner to turn the momentum in her favor.
Morgan hit the Three Amigos, and Vaquer hit the Devil's Kiss and a unique double-knee jawbreaker.
La Primera used Morgan's own Oblivion finisher against her, but she wasn't able to capitalize on it and get the pin.
Roxanne Perez showed up to distract the ref so Raquel Rodriguez could interfere, but even that wasn't enough to end the match.
Morgan was able to hit a Codebreaker from the middle rope, followed by a second Oblivion to get the win and become the new world champion.
Dominik Mysterio arrived to help her celebrate after the match.
WINNER: LIV MORGAN WON THE WOMEN'S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
The Class of 2026
5 of 14AJ Styles and the rest of the Hall of Fame class of 2026 made an appearance after Gunther vs. Rollins.
Gunther vs. Seth Rollins
6 of 14
Befitting his character, Gunther did not have a flashy entrance for WrestleMania and simply came to the ring the same way he always does for his match against Seth Rollins.
The Ring General didn't wait for the bell and attacked Rollins as soon as he got to the ring.
They fought in and around the ring for a while until the ref was able to separate them long enough to call for the bell.
Rollins lined up for a Stomp after taking Gunther down, but he ended up being flattened by a clothesline.
The longest-reigning IC champion of all time slowed the pace down a little and started wrestling his kind of match.
The Visionary hit a bucklebomb, but Gunther had enough left in him to fight back. Both men hit German suplexes and clotheslines to take each other off their feet.
Rollins welcomed the chops from Gunther and fought back with some of his own. The match was back-and-forth, with both guys getting in plenty of offense.
It took a couple of attempts, but Rollins finally hit a Pedigree followed by a Stomp, but he couldn't get the three-count.
Gunther put Rollins in a sleeper hold, but Rollins managed to escape it and nail a few spinning forearms before he was leveled with a clothesline.
Rollins tried to use the sleeper, too, but The Ring General got his foot on the bottom rope.
They ended on top of the announce table and Rollins hit a Pedigree, but the table didn't break. He followed up with a Stomp on the table.
Out of nowhere, Bron Breakker came running at Rollins and took him down with a huge Spear while the ref was checking on Gunther.
Once both men were back in the ring, Gunther applied a sleeper and made Rollins pass out to get the win.
Breakker returned and hit a second Spear before telling Rollins he should have taken him out when he had the chance. Paul Heyman was on stage and hugged Breakker to welcome him back to The Vision.
WINNER: GUNTHER
AJ Lee vs. Becky Lynch (Women's Intercontinental Championship)
7 of 14
Jeff Ross and Tony Hinchcliffe were shown in the crowd before the next match to advertise Kill Tony's live WWE show, available to watch on Monday. On the stage, The Wonder Years played Becky Lynch to the ring with a live performance. The singer appeared to be lip-syncing.
AJ Lee's entrance was accompanied by a couple of dozen young girls wearing her gear with replica belts.
They locked up and had a pretty standard exchange to get the match started. Lee baited Lynch into missing a dropkick and then tossed her out of the ring.
The Man took one of the covers off a turnbuckle, forcing the ref to reattach it. This would usually be when the heel uses the distraction to her advantage, but Becky didn't try to cheat while her back was turned.
Lynch hit a nice powerbomb as a counter, but failed to get the pin. She went for a Manhandle Slam, but Lee countered. Becky tried again after countering the Black Widow and hit it for another close two-count.
She got in the ref's face and yelled at her, but Jessika Carr screamed right back. They got into a shoving match for a second, which allowed Lee to hit Becky's own move for a near-fall.
Lynch escaped the Black Widow and removed the ring post cover again. She pulled the ref into a collision and then slammed AJ's head into the exposed metal.
The Man hit her finisher once the ref was back on her feet and got the pin to regain the women's IC title.
WINNER: BECKY LYNCH REGAINS THE INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP
8 Years Later
8 of 14Paige has been away from WWE for almost eight years, having also spent time in All Elite Wrestling and won its world title along the way. Winning the tag titles was a shocking way to make a return at the biggest show of the year.
Jax and Legend vs. Bliss and Flair vs. Bayley and Valkyria vs. Paige and Brie (Women's Tag Titles)
9 of 14
Alexa Bliss came out for her entrance wearing a set of firefly wings and special makeup. Charlotte Flair followed with her own set of butterfly wings on her robe. Whoever made their WrestleMania gear did a great job.
Each team wore special gear. Nia Jax and Lash Legend paid homage to Demolition with their masks.
The Bellas ended up entering the match last so Nikki could reveal she is still injured and unable to compete. She announced a friend as her replacement, which led to Paige making her return.
With four teams competing, one member of each team was legal at a time. They wasted no time getting right into the action.
Jax was sent out of the ring so the other three competitors could fight. Brie hit the Yes Kicks on Lyra and Flair at the same time before asking if the crowd wanted her to tag in Paige.
She was unable to make the tag, so fans had to wait a little longer to see Paige step into a WWE ring for the first time in eight years.
This was a fast-paced match with a lot of moving parts. Brie spent a lot of time in the ring, but everyone else was making semi-frequent tags.
When Paige finally got the tag, the crowd popped as she came in and started clotheslining everyone. A cameraman fell at ringside during the mayhem.
Paige and Charlotte briefly worked together to clear the ring so they could have their own moment. The former partners and rivals started trading punches as the crowd chanted with each strike.
Nikki used her crutch to attack Charlotte while Paige hit her finisher on Bliss in the ring to win the tag titles for her and Brie.
WINNERS: PAIGE AND BRIE BELLA WIN THE WOMEN'S TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS
Danhausen Gets His Blimphausen
10 of 14If you have been following Danhausen for a while, you know one of his dreams is to have a blimp.
Jacob Fatu vs. Drew McIntyre (Unsanctioned Match)
11 of 14
NFL stars George Kittle, Jahmyr Gibbs and NBA star Tyrese Haliburton were shown in the crowd having fun before Jacob Fatu made his entrance.
When Drew McIntyre made his way to the ring, he did so by kicking down a door in a small castle wall on the stage. He was carrying his old Claymore sword with him, too.
The Samoan Werewolf went right after The Scottish Warrior and threw him into the timekeeper's area.
He started pulling things out from under the ring to use as weapons, including a small toolbox full of hand tools. The announcers brought up how McIntyre had a scar from a toolbox, thanks to CM Punk, to explain why he looked so scared.
McIntyre took control and set up a table, but he was driven into the steel post before he could make use of it. Drew took a phone from his brother in the crowd and used it to hit Fatu.
They finally took the fight into the ring, where Fatu regained the upper hand and started dishing out punishment.
Both men showed off their power and used some traditional wrestling moves, but the majority of the bout was spent using whatever they could find to hurt each other.
Fatu hit his signature moonsault, but McIntyre became the first man to kick out of it in WWE, much to the surprise of the commentators.
The Scottish Warrior set up a pair of steel chairs in the ring and slammed Fatu through them. Once he recovered, The Samoan Werewolf started whipping McIntyre with a leather belt.
Both men beat the life out of each other until McIntyre ended up lying on top of the Slim Jim table. Drew managed to escape and put Fatu through a different table by shoving him off the top rope.
Once he recovered, Fatu successfully put McIntyre through the table in the ring with a moonsault for the pin and the win.
WINNER: JACOB FATU
The Usos and LA Knight vs. IShowSpeed and The Vision
12 of 14
Jimmy and Jey Uso were followed by the entrance of LA Knight, who drove a custom pickup truck with his logo and name painted on the side.
IShowSpeed, Austin Theory and Logan Paul's entrance featured a huge banner with The Vision's logo on the stage, with a split-screen entrance to show them from the front and from behind.
As they went to the ring, the camera angle changed to a nine-camera setup that probably reminded some fans of the opening credits of The Brady Bunch.
The Usos superkicked Paul and Theory out of the ring, leaving Speed alone against Knight as the first legal competitors. Speed attempted a headlock, but Knight stood up and carried him around without even using his hands to hold him.
The Megastar leveled Paul to send him off the apron, but he turned around and got hit with a surprising bodyslam from Speed, who immediately tagged out to Paul when he saw the look on Knight's face.
The Usos and Knight kept Paul isolated in their corner for a little while so they could take turns beating on him. Once Paul was able to tag in Theory, they spent some time working on Jimmy.
Speed tagged back in just to end up on the receiving end of a textbook suplex, so The Social Media Megastar came back in and kept Jimmy away from his corner to prevent a tag.
Jey got the hot tag just as Theory was brought in. The former world champion hit a few jabs and a Spear for the first two-count of the match.
Speed surprised everyone by hitting a headscissor takedown on Jimmy before Knight took him down. Theory got angry at Speed after a miscommunication, but Knight was able to capitalize and hit the BFT on Theory for the pin and the win.
This wasn't that long, but Speed impressed with his performance. Paul yelled at him and nailed him with a right hand after the match.
Paul was preparing to put Speed through the announce table, but The Usos and Knight came to his rescue. They set up Paul on top of the table and told Speed to get his revenge.
He climbed to the top turnbuckle, stepped onto the ring post, and dove off to hit a massive frog splash to put his former friend through the announce table.
The drone shot of the dive was fantastic and definitely created the highlight reel moment WWE was hoping for. The winners celebrated with the YouTuber in the ring as the crowd Yeeted along with the music.
WINNERS: THE USOS AND LA KNIGHT
Welcome to WrestleMania Saturday
13 of 14After a rendition of "God Bless America" from a local Las Vegas choir, WrestleMania 42 officially kicked off with a drone shot of the city and Allegiant Stadium.
Michael Cole welcomed everyone to the show before we went to the opening video package with highlights from 'Manias of the past. Lin-Manuel Miranda narrated the video.
John Cena made his way out to the ring in a suit and tie to serve as host for the evening. He greeted fans along the aisle and looked excited.
The 17-time world champion gave a quick speech and some pyro fired off before The Usos made their entrance for the first match of the night.
