New Travis Hunter Rumors Emerge on Jaguars' View of Two-Way Star 1 Year After NFL Draft-Day Trade
The Jacksonville Jaguars reportedly felt two-way player Travis Hunter already established himself as the team's top cornerback during his rookie 2025 season.
ESPN's Michael DiRocco reported Saturday "there are some inside the organization that believe Hunter was already the team's best corner last season."
Whether Hunter is able to keep building on that perception this offseason could potentially impact how the Jaguars use him on defense in 2026.
DiRocco reported that "the team plans to continue to use Hunter on both sides of the ball, though it's too early to tell what that mix could be."
"It likely will depend on where he's needed the most, but if he does become an elite cornerback, it's logical to assume he'd remain primarily on defense and have a package of plays on offense," DiRocco reported.
Hunter had previously questioned a report from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport that he would be transitioning to a full-time cornerback and part-time wide receiver in his second NFL season.
The Jaguars are set to bring back the majority of the team's 2025 secondary next season.
The Jags re-signed veteran cornerback Montaric Brown last month, putting him on track to start on the outside alongside Hunter while Jourdan Lewis returns at nickel.
Jarrian Jones and Christian Braswell are also returning, and the Jaguars could target another cornerback with one of their 11 picks in the 2026 draft to add further depth at the position.
The Jaguars traded a package including their 2026 first-rounder to the Cleveland Browns in order to rise three slots to No. 2 in the 2025 draft and select Hunter after he successfully played at both cornerback and wide receiver with Colorado.
Jacksonville is now heading into the 2026 draft without a first-round pick, but the franchise will hope that proves to be worth it if Hunter can continue proving he belongs at the top of the cornerback depth chart going forward.
