The 2025 season didn't go to plan for Drew Allar. He's hoping for a chance to turn things around at the NFL level, and he won't have to move far to get that shot.

The Penn State quarterback was selected in the third round (No. 76 overall) by the Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday, providing them with a long-term developmental project going forward.

Allar sent a message to Steelers fans after the pick:

Fans and pundits reacted to that selection on social media:

Allar had a fantastic 2024 season (save for a game-losing interception in the College Football Playoff semifinals), throwing for 3,327 yards, 24 touchdowns and eight interceptions while completing 66.5 percent of his passes.

Expectations were high coming into the 2025 campaign, but Penn State's surprising struggles and a season-ending broken left ankle in October extinguished that optimism and cast serious doubts on Allar's draft stock.

Strong showings in the pre-draft events helped, however, and the B/R NFL Scouting Department ranked him as its No. 3 quarterback, giving him a pro comparison of "Daniel Jones with Joe Flacco's arm talent."

Per that scouting report, he's a "naturally gifted quarterback with a high upside and ceiling. There remains a lot of development needed before he can effectively lead an NFL franchise to success. He is a natural thrower of the football, possessing immense arm talent to execute every throw in the book. He has flashed the ability to be a multi-speed pitcher, layering the football with the requisite touch and arc."

Pittsburgh is taking a chance on Allar hitting that ceiling.
