Carson Beck Drafted By Cardinals, Fans React to Potential Kyler Murray Replacement After QB's Exit

Carson Beck was selected with the first pick in the third round (No. 65 overall) by the Cardinals on Friday, giving them a long-term developmental project behind projected Jacoby Brissett (or perhaps a starter if contract talks with Brissett continue to drag out).

Beck, 23, spent five seasons in college and was Georgia's starter for two years and Miami's in the 2025 campaign, leading them to the College Football Playoff and the National Championship Game.

He threw for 3,813 yards, 30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions last year, taking 18 sacks while completing 72.4 percent of his passes. That solidified his standing as one of the quarterbacks of note heading into the NFL draft.

The B/R NFL Scouting Department considered him the No. 5 quarterback in this year's draft, giving him a pro comparison of Kenny Pickett.

Per that scouting report, his "play style and strengths fit the mold of a high-end game manager quarterback in the NFL. Beck has the skill set suited to a team with strong talent and culture that can win games. He excels in a point-guard role under center. He combines good anticipation, quick game efficiency, and timely throwing."

He does struggle with turnovers and against pressure, however, and there are some questions about his arm strength. Pushing the ball down the field and into tight windows aren't necessarily his strengths, and at the NFL level he'll fit more into the game-manager mold if he's able to carve out a role for himself.

Arizona is banking on him doing so, either as a long-term replacement for Brissett or, at the very least, a competent backup.
