New Dexter Lawrence Rumors Reveal Giants Star's Trade Stance After Contract Talks Stall

Andrew PetersApr 16, 2026

While the New York Giants seemingly made progress in negotiations with Dexter Lawrence earlier this week, things have quickly changed.

Contract discussions reportedly stalled on Wednesday, and the star defensive tackle now wants out of New York completely, according to Paul Schwartz of the New York Post.

According to Schwartz, Lawrence wants "a lot more money," but added that the trade request is about more than just the contract dispute.

Lawrence has two years remaining on his contract and is currently slated to make $18.5 million in 2026.

The former first-round pick had one of the worst seasons of his career in 2025, recording 31 tackles and just half of a sack. In 2024, he had a career-high nine sacks despite playing just 12 games.

Giants general manager Joe Schoen said earlier this week that he and Lawrence "had good conversations" recently, adding that talks were "productive." Now, it seems the two sides are at an impasse, and with the draft coming up, Lawrence's contract will likely be on the back burner.

Whether he'll be in New York next season remains to be seen, but all signs are pointing towards a trade at the moment.
