Carlos Ulberg Reveals He Lost UFC Title Belt After Shocking KO Win vs. Jiri Prochazka
If possession is nine-tenths of the law, then somebody other than Carlos Ulberg is the UFC light heavyweight champion right now.
Ulberg knocked out JiĹĂ ProchĂĄzka in the first round at UFC 327 to claim the vacant title. Unfortunately, he told Fox Sports Australia's Nick Walshaw he lost the physical belt while celebrating his victory.
"We've got a big group of boys over here in Miami and, when the fight was done, we all went out to the afterparty at a nightclub," Ulberg said. "Then after that, it was back to one of the boys' apartments and we all hung out there. I didn't want to be carrying the belt around so I think it's still there at the apartment somewhere. One of the boys probably has it in bed with him."
The lost championship isn't his only problem.
Ulberg's right knee buckled midway through the fight. He fought through the pain and caught ProchĂĄzka flush with a left hook before unloading with a flurry of punches that earned him a stunning win.
At the time of his interview with Walshaw, Ulberg said he hadn't been fully examined to know the extent of his injury. But he said inside the cage immediately after the fight that "I blew out my knee."
Should the 35-year-old need a lengthy period for his recovery, the light heavyweight championship picture is in flux once again.
Just as soon as the UFC locates the belt.
