Backstage WWE and AEW Rumors on WrestleMania, Darby Allin and More

Erik BeastonApr 16, 2026

The rumor mill may be red-hot with WrestleMania 42 reports and speculation, but AEW's massive curveball with the coronation of Darby Allin as the new world champion is also generating buzz.

The Daredevil paid off years of feuding with MJF, even taking him over with a headlock takedown before pinning him and winning the gold.

Dive into both of those topics, as well as an NXT star poised to make a major run on the brand, with this collection of insider reports.

WrestleMania Rehearsals Underway

Monday Night RAW

Sean Ross Sapp reported for Fightful Select that rehearsals for several WrestleMania matches began on Wednesday, with the six-pack ladder match for the Intercontinental Championship among them.

Sapp said: "With 14 matches, it's unlikely that all the matches will see rehearsals on Wednesday, but the setup for said rehearsals is already prepared for use throughout the week."

It stands to reason that a match with as many moving parts as the aforementioned ladder match would have early walk-throughs.

Add to that any potential 'Mania jitters for Je'Von Evans, Dragon Lee, and JD McDonagh, and you have even more reason to make sure everyone knows what everyone else is doing so the match can be delivered safely and spectacularly.

It was not noted which other rehearsals took place.

Latest on Darby Allin's AEW World Title Win

Sapp also reported that, before Darby Allin's victory over MJF for the AEW World Championship on Wednesday night's Dynamite, "Darby Allin was discussed as possibly winning the championship multiple times in the past couple of years."

The 33-year-old had been discussed as the star to defeat and dethrone Jon Moxley, but that never came to pass, and Hangman Adam Page got the nod instead.

Allin is one of AEW's originals and battled Chris Jericho for the world title on the third-ever edition of Dynamite. The Seattle native has repeatedly sacrificed his body and well-being for the promotion in the name of being great, leaving a lasting impression and giving fans something unforgettable to talk about after the show.

There will be debate over whether Allin was the right guy, right now, to dethrone MJF, who was red-hot coming off a win over Kenny Omega at Dynasty, but his victory still felt like one of those long-overdue moments fans had been buzzing about that finally came to fruition.

Big Things Ahead for Keanu Carver

NXT

BodySlam+ reported that a big push is in store for Keanu Carver in the weeks and months to come in NXT.

The former Temple Owls defensive tackle has gradually risen up the ranks in the developmental system and seen his role expanded in recent months, suggesting he will take over a top-tier spot, potentially as NXT talent is called up to the main roster post-WrestleMania.

Carver, 27, has the look, aura and athleticism necessary to be a top star, and it will be interesting to see if the ring ability continues to evolve as he has the opportunity to work regularly with elite talent on NXT.
