Carnell Tate Reveals Which NFL Team He's 'Very Comfortable' with amid 2026 Draft Rumors

Julia StumbaughApr 15, 2026

The Cleveland Browns may be high on former Ohio State wide receiver Carnell Tate's list of preferred destinations heading into the 2026 NFL draft.

"I'm very familiar with them, and Cleveland's right up the street from us, probably like an hour and a half, two hour drive from the [Ohio State] facility," Tate said around the 2:15 mark of a Wednesday appearance on The Rich Eisen Show.

When asked about his visit to the Browns, Tate said, "I was very comfortable. At this point in the process, this is all about football. Touring the facility, talking to the coaches there, them getting a feel for your personality, you getting a feel for them."

Tate said his first visit was with the Browns, followed by visits with the Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens, Tennessee Titans and New Orleans Saints.

He also added that he is preparing for upcoming visits with the Washington Commanders and New York Giants.

After playing alongside Jeremiah Smith and Emeka Egbuka during Ohio State's national title campaign in 2024, Tate recorded 875 receiving yards and nine touchdowns in 11 games while taking on a larger role in the Buckeyes' offense in 2025.

Tate is ranked as the No. 2 wide receiver and No. 11 overall prospect on Bleacher Report's latest 2026 NFL draft big board. He is projected to go to the Browns at No. 6 on the most recent B/R mock draft.

That may necessitate Tate falling past the Titans at No. 4 and the Giants at No. 5. The Browns will still get the chance to select him before the Commanders (No. 7), Saints (No. 8), Chiefs (No. 9) and Ravens (No. 14) are currently slated to get on the board.

B/R NFL scout Damian Parson described Tate as "a technically refined target to immediately contribute as the Z-receiver in an offense."

"He adds a great blend of perimeter size, detailed route running and springy athleticism, allowing him to high-point contested catches downfield thanks to outstanding field awareness," Parson wrote.

The Browns are heading into next season without a clear answer as to whether Deshaun Watson will be playing for the first time since 2024, Shedeur Sanders will make his Week 1 debut or another offseason quarterback addition will compete for playing time next season.

Given the uncertainty surrounding the Brown's quarterback room in 2026 and the possibility the franchise could target a long-term solution under center in 2027, Cleveland could consider bringing in a top wide receiver prospect around which to build the team's offense going forward.

The Browns are currently set to hold nine draft picks, including two in the first round, when the 2026 NFL draft begins April 23 in Pittsburgh.
