Troy Aikman's Role in Dolphins' 2026 NFL Draft Process Revealed by GM Jon-Eric Sullivan

Miami Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan provided more insight into what exactly Troy Aikman's role will be when he arrives to help the team out during the 2026 NFL draft.

"He will not be consulted for picks," Sullivan said Wednesday, per Andrew Siciliano. "He may be in the draft room."

Aikman, who was originally hired in January as a consultant in the Dolphins' general manager search, told DLLS Sports in March he would be in the team's facility in Miami during the draft.

Sullivan said Wednesday that both Aikman and Dan Marino, who has been working as the franchise's special advisor since 2014, have been "sounding boards" for the organization.

"I can't say enough good things about Troy and Dan.. Dan has been a tremendous sounding board for us," Sullivan said, per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. "He's been especially helpful for me with quarterbacks and receivers. Troy has been a wonderful sounding board from afar.

"Troy will be part of equation going forward; what that looks like, we'll see. He's certainly welcome in the draft room."

Both Marino, who played 17 seasons for the Dolphins from 1983 to 1999, and Aikman, who played 12 seasons with the Dallas Cowboys from 1989 to 2000, ultimately both parlayed their quarterback experience into NFL analyst jobs before getting involved with the Dolphins' front office.

Aikman said during his interview DLLS Sports last month he felt the Dolphins had been "wise in understanding my relationships around the league and knowing that I have information that they don't have" when bringing him in to the organization.

The Dolphins are heading into the 2026 NFL draft with roster gaps at wide receiver and cornerback alongside 11 picks, including the No. 11 and No. 30 selections in the first round. Aikman could be with the organization in Miami when the draft kicks off in April 23 in Pittsburgh.
