Dolphins GM Discusses If De'Von Achane Is Available for Trade, Updates Contract Extension Talks

Julia StumbaughApr 15, 2026

The Miami Dolphins' ongoing roster overhaul will apparently not involve moving on from running back De'Von Achane's expiring contract.

Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan said Wednesday Achane "is not available for trade," per NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe.

Sullivan added he feels the Dolphins and Achane are "trending in the right direction" toward an extension.

Achane is currently set to play the 2026 season on the final year of his rookie deal.

ESPN's Adam Schefter previously reported on March 18 that "teams that have recently called the Dolphins to inquire about trading for Achane have been told that the star running back is not available."

There has been some uncertainty about Achane's future with the franchise, however, amid recent reports about stalled negotiations between him and the Dolphins.

Omar Kelly of the Miami Herald reported Sunday the Dolphins had discussed a new deal but were not "close" to an extension with Achane.

That apparently hasn't been enough to sway the opinion of Sullivan, who told reporters during the NFL's annual meetings in March that Achane "is a very, very, very important piece of what we're gonna do moving forward," per Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post.

"He's a building block for us. It is a priority for us to get a deal done with him in the coming weeks, months," Sullivan said in March, per Schad.

Achane earned his first Pro Bowl nod while racking up a career-high 1,350 rushing yards last season.

He also added 488 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns to establish himself as a dual threat despite turnover in the Dolphins quarterback room last season.

Achane was not in attendance for the start of the Dolphins' offseason program last week, although head coach Jeff Hafley said his absence was "all part of the business" and expressed confidence the Dolphins would resolve the dispute, per ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques.

The Dolphins have spent the offseason stripping down their roster from last season, including by releasing Tua Tagovailoa and trading wide receiver Jaylen Waddle. Keeping Achane in the fold could be key to helping Malik Willis, who spent his last four seasons as a backup with the Tennessee Titans and Green Bay Packers, adjust to a potential starting role in Miami next season.
