Christian McCaffrey Reacts to Mike Evans' 49ers Contract, Hypes Jeremiyah Love Ahead of NFL Draft
Star running back Christian McCaffrey detailed his reaction to the San Francisco 49ers signing veteran wide receiver Mike Evans in free agency.
"I was so fired up, man," McCaffrey told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport (5:45 mark). "I think he's somebody that if you're a fan of football, you've watched his entire career and it's hard not to like the guy. He's a first-ballot Hall of Famer. He's somebody that, in my opinion, has never gotten enough credit. I think he plays that way, he plays with a chip on his shoulder. He's one of the best go ball runners in the history of the NFL. He blocks his butt off, he's mean and he's the perfect fit for our offense."

"To have a guy like that who's experienced the NFL at every level is super exciting, so we're so fired up to have him," he added.
Evans signed a three-year contract worth $60.4 million with the 49ers on March 9 after spending 12 years on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He earned six Pro Bowl nods as a member of the Buccaneers, surpassing 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first 11 seasons.
McCaffrey also gave his thoughts on Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love, one of the top prospects in the 2026 NFL draft.
"I think when you watch him move, just at the combine and all the different things, you can tell why he's such a great player," McCaffrey told Rapoport (1:25 mark). "But I think when you watch his tape, you find out that he has that extra juice, that stuff that you can't really coach. That's the vision, that's the contact balance. You can tell the way his teammates talk about him as well, which is cool."
"He's a guy that I'm sure is gonna have continued success for however long he wants to play," he added.
Love, who rushed for 1,372 yards and 18 touchdowns with the Fighting Irish in 2025, was projected to be off the board with the No. 4 overall pick in the latest mock draft from Bleacher Report's NFL Scouting Department.
As for McCaffrey, he's looking to help the 49ers clinch another playoff berth in 2026 after earning Comeback Player of the Year honors last season.
