Former FSU QB Tommy Castellanos Reportedly Drawing Interest as WR Ahead of NFL Draft

Scott PolacekApr 14, 2026

Tommy Castellanos played quarterback for three different schools during his collegiate career, but he reportedly could switch positions to reach the next level.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Tuesday that Castellanos "has drawn interest" as both a quarterback and slot wide receiver with the draft approaching. Notably, he participated in wide receiver drills during his pro day and "is training at both positions."

Castellanos started his collegiate career at Boston College and suited up for Boston College and Florida State as well. While he threw for a career-best 2,760 yards during the 2025 campaign for the Seminoles, he was most dangerous as a runner at times.

In fact, he ran for 1,113 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2023 for Boston College before tallying 557 yards and nine scores on the ground during his last season with Florida State.

Castellanos was not listed among the top 275 players in the latest big board from B/R's NFL Scouting Department and could find himself as an undrafted free agent or late-round pick at best.

Having the ability to play multiple positions would make him more valuable and give offenses the ability to mix in some trick plays.

A former college quarterback at slot receiver opens up the possibility of reverse passes, double passes and trick plays that will keep opposing defenses honest. That, in turn, could create more openings for the go-to receivers on the outside if the safeties have to hesitate for a moment.

The elusiveness he displayed as a runner at quarterback should also help him run routes and perhaps create matchup problems from the slot.

While it remains to be seen whether an NFL team will take a chance on him come draft day, this at least adds another layer to his potential and gives those front offices something else to consider when evaluating their late-round picks.
