Former AFL DPOY Campaigns for NFL Job Outside Lions Facility with Stats on Poster in Trending Video
Former Arena Football League Defensive Player of the Year Freddie McGee III isn't giving up on his NFL dreams.
McGee was seen outside of the Detroit Lions' facility holding a poster with his AFL stats as he campaigned for the chance to earn a spot on the roster.

McGee played five seasons at Eastern Michigan and totaled 85 tackles, 11 passes defended, two fumble recoveries and an interception across 47 games. While those numbers weren't good enough to get a chance in the NFL, he proved that he can be a consistent playmaker during his tenure in the AFL.
"(When I) came out (in 2021), I had a solid pro day. Ultimately, I didn't get a shot in the NFL, so I had to take the (Arena Football League) route," McGee told Kory Woods of MLive. "Last year, I won defensive player of the year in the AFL. I led the league with 14 interceptions and 25 pass breakups. Like I said, no agent. Just looking for a shot, man. One opportunity, one workout. See what it does."
McGee is a native of Canton, Michigan, so it would be a storybook ending if he could earn an invite from the Lions to try to prove himself worthy of a roster spot this offseason.
