Scottie Scheffler Reacts to Historic Masters Finish, Says Round 2 'Really Hurt'
Scottie Scheffler shot a 4-under 68 on Sunday, finishing 11 under as this year's Masters. It wasn't quite enough to prevent Rory McIlroy (12 under) from winning his second straight green jacket, however.
"I played what I thought was really solid on Thursday," Scheffler said after the final round. "And then Friday, with the softer greens, that round really hurt. Especially the mistakes I made on the back nine. Overall over the weekend I put up a good fight, a lot of good stuff, in order to give myself a chance. Just ultimately came up a couple of shots short."
Scheffler shot a 74 on Friday, putting him at even par for the tournament. While he shot 11 under over the final two rounds, it wasn't quite enough to catch McIlroy.
But more majors are surely coming for Scheffler, who has won three since 2024 alone (and four overall). It wasn't quite in the cards at Augusta National, where he's won twice, but he'll have the chance to complete the career grand slam at this year's U.S. Open.
