Everything Rory McIlroy Said About Winning 2026 Masters for Historic Green Jacket
Rory McIlroy has won the Masters for the second straight year after shooting 12-under overall, beating World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler by one shot.
Here's a look at McIlroy's comments shortly after winning at Augusta National Golf Club. You can also view his post-round press conference here.
Multiple-time winners put their old green jackets back on in the ceremony. McIlroy was glad his still fit from last year when Augusta National Golf Club chairman Fred Ridley put it on in Butler Cabin.
It wasn't easy for McIlroy, who took a six-shot lead after Friday but found himself tied heading into the fourth round and then down two strokes following six holes on Sunday.
McIlroy stormed back to take the lead and then held a two-shot edge on Scottie Scheffler going into the last, but he scrambled after a bad tee shot. Still, he got bogey and won, but McIlroy admitted he made it a little harder on himself.
The ending was a little rough, but it didn't matter thanks to McIlroy's earlier efforts, particularly on the first two days. He graded his performance afterward.
With the win, McIlroy can make an even greater case for being the greatest European golfer ever, and he spoke about his place in that talk a bit.
McIlroy also gave a speech at sunset on the 18th hole after the big win and noted how much his daughter Poppy loves Masters weekend.
McIlroy also talked about the golf dreams he had as a kid, surely realized now as he's turned into one of the sport's greats.
The dream is a reality, and McIlroy is now a back-to-back Masters champion. He gave a look at what's immediately next.
McIlroy is now six-time major champion, tied for 12th all time with Nick Faldo and Lee Trevino.
