De'Von Achane, Dolphins Contract Extension Reportedly Not 'Close' Despite Discussions

Paul KasabianApr 12, 2026

The Miami Dolphins and running back De'Von Achane are not "close" on a contract extension, per Omar Kelly of the Miami Herald.

"Tailback De'Von Achane, inside linebacker Jordyn Brooks and Tyrel Dodson, and center Aaron Brewer are all entering the final season of their contract, and therefore seek extensions. The Dolphins are aware, and have discussed it with each. But no deals are close, sources say."

Achane, who went in the third round of the 2023 NFL draft, is entering the fourth and final season of his rookie contract. He just amassed 1,838 yards from scrimmage and 12 touchdowns in 2025. Achane also eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark on the ground for the first time in his career with 1,350 rushing yards in total.

Miami is amid a full rebuild under the leadership of first-year general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan. The Dolphins have made big changes, including parting ways with head coach Mike McDaniel, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and wide receiver Tyreek Hill. Miami also traded wideout Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos.

Achane remains on the team, though it's unclear whether his future is in Miami or elsewhere. A re-signing would make sense considering that the 24-year-old Achane is in the prime of his career and someone the team can build around.

However, it's clear the two sides are far apart as of now. Of course, there's still plenty of time to get something done this offseason. We're still very early in the offseason, though, to the point where the draft is still two weeks away. So it's very possible the Dolphins and Achane can close the gap and work something out.

As it stands now, Achane is the clear focal point of the offense that will now be led by former Packers backup quarterback Malik Willis.
