Adding Sabally and re-signing Jones forms a great new core four with Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu. Sabally just averaged 16.3 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists in the regular season for the Mercury. She was also a force in the playoffs, posting 19.0 PPG per game.
Bringing Jones back into the mix is huge as well. The five-time All-Star and 2021 WNBA MVP has been with the Liberty for three seasons after playing her first six on the Connecticut Sun. Last year, Jones posted 13.6 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game.
On paper, New York looks like the team to beat for the WNBA crown. The team is currently atop the championship odds ledger at FanDuel Sportsbook (+290).
Of course, there's plenty of competition for New York en route to the championship. The top five in the championship odds looks particularly strong, and that group also consists of the defending WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces, the Minnesota Lynx, the Indiana Fever and the Atlanta Dream.
The Aces return a strong group led by four-time WNBA MVP A'ja Wilson, the Lynx (guided by superstar Napheesa Collier) finished with the WNBA's best regular season record in 2025, the Fever return a semifinalist team adding a healthy Caitlin Clark back into the mix and the Dream just traded for two-time All-Star Angel Reese.
However, New York looks formidable, and the team will begin its quest for two championships in three years when it hosts the Sun on Friday, May 8.
