De'Von Achane, Dolphins Agree to Reported $68M Contract, How Salary Ranks Among Top NFL RBs

Zach BacharMay 20, 2026

The Miami Dolphins agreed to a contract extension with running back De'Von Achane, the team announced Wednesday.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Achane and the Dolphins agreed to a four-year, $68 million deal that includes $32 million guaranteed.

The $17 million average annual value of Achane's new contract ranks No. 3 among all running backs (via Spotrac). He only trails Saquon Barkley and Christian McCaffrey, with Breece Hall now fourth after signing his $15.25 million per year deal last week.

Achane was entering the final year of his rookie contract prior to the deal.

Miami's extension decision doesn't come as a large surprise, as Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan previously confirmed that securing Achane's long-term future was a priority.

"Achane is a very, very, very important piece of what we're going to do moving forward," Sullivan said on March 30, per ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques. "He's a building block for us. It is a priority for us to get a deal done with him in the coming weeks, months."

The 24-year-old has spent his entire career with Miami after the team selected him with a third-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft.

Although Achane missed time during his rookie season due to an AC joint sprain, he still showed promise when available. He rushed for 800 yards and eight touchdowns in 11 games, averaging an impressive 7.8 yards per carry.

Achane remained effective during his sophomore season in 2024, amassing 1,499 all-purpose yards while finding the end zone 12 times in 17 games.

He took another step forward last year, as he earned a Pro Bowl nod for the first time in his career.

In 2025, Achane rushed for 1,350 yards and eight touchdowns on 238 attempts across 16 appearances. He also hauled in 67 receptions for 488 yards and four touchdowns.

As the Dolphins look to end a two-year playoff drought in 2026 under new head coach Jeff Hafley, it doesn't appear as though Achane will be experiencing a change of scenery anytime soon.
