Chris Jericho Loses to Ricochet at AEW Dynasty in 1st Match Since Epic Return

Mike ChiariApr 12, 2026

In his first match in more than a year, Chris Jericho lost to Ricochet at AEW Dynasty on Sunday night.

Ricochet won after hitting the Spirit Gun and then Jericho's own move, the Lionsault, for the pin.

Jericho had his moments, though, including reversing a shooting star press into a Codebreaker.

After months of rumors and speculation linking Jericho to a potential return to WWE, the inaugural AEW world champion shocked the pro wrestling world by resurfacing in AEW on the April 1 episode of Dynamite in his hometown of Winnipeg.

It marked Jericho's first televised wrestling appearance since April 2025 after he dropped the Ring of Honor World Championship to Bandido at last year's Dynasty pay-per-view.

One week after his AEW return, Jericho appeared once again on the go-home episode of Dynamite before Dynasty, and it helped set the stage for his return match.

Jericho discussed his decision to remain in AEW, and just as he was about to sign his new contract with the company, he was interrupted by Ricochet and The Demand.

Ricochet told Jericho to leave AEW and go back to touring with his band, which prompted Jericho to bring back the popular list gimmick he first utilized during his time with WWE.

Jericho also ignored Ricochet's request, signed his AEW contract anyway and dropped a bombshell regarding his bout at Dynasty.

The 55-year-old veteran revealed that as part of his new deal, he was given the authority to choose the opponent for his return match, and he decided to go with Ricochet.

Given Ricochet's speed, athleticism and high-flying ability, he was a logical choice for Jericho in terms of proving that he can still perform at a high level in the ring.

While Jericho was competitive on Sunday, his AEW return got off to a losing start, which suggests he has plenty of work to do before getting back into the AEW World Championship mix.
