The Rangers are off to a 7-5 start to the 2026 season and rank first in the AL West. They most recently completed a three-game sweep of the division rival Seattle Mariners with a 3-0 shutout win on Wednesday night. The team's collective 2.94 ERA ranks fifth in the majors.
ESPN's Anthony Gharib explained the inspiration behind Texas' new City Connect uniforms.
"The Rangers pay homage to the Mexican influence on the state's identity in a 'Cochineal red' look with 'Tejas' across the chest. 'Tejas' means 'friend' in the Caddo language -- the Caddo people are a Native American tribe with multicentury roots in East Texas," Gharib stated. "'Tejas' is in a letter style inspired by the Rangers' uniforms from the 1980s. The sleeve and pant piping are a nod to embroidery found on the suits worn by Mariachi de Los Texas Rangers (the team's official mariachi band, which performs at home games)."
Rangers outfielder Wyatt Langford called the red uniforms a "personal favorite" that stood out immediately when he first saw them.
The Rangers will try to keep the momentum going when they open up a three-game set against the back-to-back defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers (9-3) on Friday.
