What isn't readily apparent on a first look is that the lettering and numbers include a color gradient. The shift from blue to orange is intend to evoke the sunset you might see while relaxing lakeside in Wisconsin.
The new jerseys will debut Friday against the Washington Nationals. The team has earmarked 15 home games overall:
- April 10
- April 11
- April 12
- April 24
- May 8
- May 22
- June 12
- June 26
- June 27
- July 17
- Aug. 7
- Aug. 21
- Aug. 28
- Sept. 11
- Sept. 25
The look is quite a departure from Milwaukee's old City Connects. Those jerseys were light blue with "Brew Crew" written across the chests. The spirit was largely the same, though, as the team wanted to celebrate summers on Lake Michigan.
"Even though the official branding is City Connect, we call it 'State Connect' internally," Brewers president of business operations Rick Schlesinger said to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy. "… I think Wisconsinites, they are social creatures. Whether it's the tailgating before the games, the social clubs, rotary, scouts, even taverns, they love the group experience. We really try to cater to it."
Among the secondary design features is a wheat/barley braid that runs down the shoulder sleeves from the neck to the elbow. The Brewers also have their Barrelman mascot featured on a sleeve patch.
Milwaukee is tied for first place in the National League Central at 8-4. While the season is still young, fans will be feeling good about the team's chances of making a fourth straight trip to the playoffs.
