ESPN's Anthony Gharib explained the details of the inspiration behind the Royals' City Connect uniforms, which are "meant to honor the next generation of Royals fans" while simultaneously paying homage to the past.

"The color gradient pays homage to the city of fountains logo City Hall adopted in 1991 and the 'R' logo is a modern twist on the original 1969 mark," Gharib noted. "'Hey Hey Hey Hey' runs on the collar of the uniform, a reference to The Beatles famous cover of 'Kansas City/Hey Hey Hey Hey' at Municipal Stadium in 1964. The same track plays after each win at Kauffman Stadium."

Royals ace Cole Ragans told Gharib that the nod to The Beatles was his favorite element of the design.

Kansas City lost its last two games against the Cleveland Guardians, most recently falling 10-2 on Wednesday after Ragans exited his start in the first inning after being struck on the left thumb by a comebacker. He said after the game that he expects to be ready for his next start.

The Royals will open a four-game weekend series against the Chicago White Sox (4-8) on Thursday night.
