Padres Reveal New City Connect Uniforms in Video, Photos, Debut Date Revealed
The San Diego Padres gave fans a look at the team's new City Connect uniforms ahead of their Friday debut.
Padres players debuted the uniforms in a video posted Thursday to social media.
The Padres are expected to wear the new City Connect look for the first time during their Friday night home game against the Colorado Rockies.
That will mark the second game of this week's series, which kicks off between the Rockies and Padres Thursday night at Petco Park.
The Padres will continue wearing the uniforms for every Friday night home game this season, including upcoming matchups with the White Sox (May 1 ), St. Louis Cardinals (May 8) and Athletics (May 22).
The new uniforms feature similar lettering to the first City Connect jerseys the Padres debuted in 2022, although the color scheme has changed from the previous pink, teal and yellow iteration.
The new color scheme was described by the team as "bone, obsidian, marigold, aqua, fireberry and Padres gold."
The sleeve of the new uniform features a patch celebrating Dia de los Muertos with an image of La Catrina, a symbol representing the annual Mexican holiday.
The trim on the sleeves and pants also features a pattern representing marigolds in honor of their use in Dia de los Muertos celebrations.
The new City Connect look also features a cap with a similar interlocking S and D to the one the club wore from 1991 to 2003, per SportsLogos.net.
San Diego joined seven other MLB clubs including the Atlanta Braves, Baltimore Orioles, Cincinnati Reds, Kansas City Royals, Milwaukee Brewers, Pittsburgh Pirates and Texas Rangers in unveiling new City Connect uniforms Thursday morning.
MLB first launched City Connect uniforms as part of its collaboration with Nike in 2021.
The partnership has since led to the design of 37 total City Connect uniforms, per ESPN's Anthony Gharib, including two from the Padres. Only the New York Yankees and Athletics have not participated in the promotion, per Gharib.
