Why Sonny Styles Reportedly Is 'Real Possibility' for Giants amid 2026 NFL Draft Rumors
While it isn't considered a premium position, the New York Giants "wouldn't be shy about drafting an off-ball linebacker at No. 5," according to ESPN's Jordan Reid.
To that end, Ohio State's Sonny Styles could be a "real possibility."
"New coach John Harbaugh has always considered the middle linebacker spot to be important, and Styles fits the mold of what Harbaugh has loved in players such as Roquan Smith," Reid wrote.

Styles is the No. 6 overall prospect on Bleacher Report's 2026 big board. After transitioning full-time to linebacker in 2024, he had 182 tackles, seven sacks and 17 tackles for loss.
In general, nobody doubts Styles' talent. The question is how high is too high for an off-ball linebacker.
Beyond the fact these players don't impact the game as much as other positions do, there's a financial component at play.
The fifth overall pick will earn $45.6 million over four years on his rookie contract. By Year 4, their salary will climb to $14.5 million. Only eight linebackers currently have an average salary of $14.5 million or more.
In terms of getting the most return on your investment, going after an offensive tackle, edge-rusher or wide receiver is a better value play.
But Styles simply might be that good, and the Giants could certainly use another defensive tone-setter after allowing the fifth-most yards in the league.
Three-time Pro Bowler Dexter Lawrence II has requested a trade as well. Even assuming Lawrence is still in New York by Week 1, the horse may have left the barn there. His exit within the next few years could be inevitable.
It's hard to pinpoint an obvious prospect for the Giants. Ohio State safety Caleb Downs seems to be a popular choice, and that's another case where the points about positional value apply.
Setting that conversation aside, Styles would be an upgrade to New York's defense, and his arrival would likely be cheered by the fanbase.
