The story involving Iyo Sky, Asuka, and Kairi Sane has been building across WWE TV for months, with the obvious endgame being a battle between The Genius of the Sky and the Empress of Tomorrow at WrestleMania 42.

Except that match was not announced alongside the rest of the card on ESPN Tuesday, leaving some to question whether it will still happen in Las Vegas.

Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Live reported that it will, but only if Nikki Bella has recovered from her recent ankle injury and can compete in the Women's Tag Team Championship Match. Otherwise, the Kabuki Warriors would slot into the Bella Twins' spot in that contest.

It is an unfortunate spot for all involved to be in, but most of all Sky and Asuka, whose work has earned them a spot on the WrestleMania card, as has Sane, who has developed into quite the sympathetic character under the latter's rule.

A one-on-one match with Sky would be Asuka's first solo dance on the WrestleMania stage since challenging Bianca Belair for the Raw Women's Championship in 2023.

    Last-Minute Intercontinental Title Match

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported that the plans for the Intercontinental Championship Ladder Match at WrestleMania 42 were finalized fairly late in the game.

He wrote, "We're told that the plans were finalized for the IC Title ladder match last week. A number of the participants found out pretty last minute ahead of Raw."

It would not be the first time a multi-man ladder match at WrestleMania was a showcase for those Superstars who did not have anything else better to do at the biggest show of the year.

The inaugural Money in the Bank Ladder Match served as a means to get Chris Jericho, Kane, Chris Benoit, Edge, Christian, and Shelton Benjamin on the card, with something at stake to make it more meaningful.

Ditto pretty much every other multi-person ladder match ever to take place at the Showcase of the Immortals since.

Given the fluid nature of the build to this year's show, too, it is not surprising in the least that some of the participants only found out about it ahead of the segment that announced it two weeks ago on Raw.
