Preview and Predictions
3 of 3
This year's Frozen Four will be chock-full of NHL prospects and affiliates. For the first time in tournament history, the remaining talent will be on display at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The Wolverines are the tournament favorites and the top-ranked team in the nation. Boasting a 31-7-1 record, Michigan heads into the Frozen Four following victories over Bentley and Minnesota Duluth. It'll face a Denver team that just knocked off the defending-champion Western Michigan Broncos.
Denver has the players and the pedigree to go toe-to-toe with the Wolverines on Thursday. Having won 10 total championships and two of the last four, the Pioneers shouldn't really be considered underdogs.
Fans should expect a tight, back-and-forth game between Denver and Michigan. The prediction here is that the Wolverines offense, led by Montreal Canadiens affiliate Michael Hage, does just enough to pull out a late one-goal victory.
The battle between North Dakota and Wisconsin may not be that close. Led by the likes of Ellis Rickwood and Calgary Flames affiliate Cole Reschny, the Fighting Hawks have been a dominant force.
North Dakota rolled over Merrimack and Quinnipiac, with a combined score of 8-0, to reach the Frozen Four.
Wisconsin can't be totally discounted, of course. The Badgers feature standouts like Ottawa Senators affiliate Tyson Dyck and New York Islanders affiliate Quinn Finley. They also just beat a very good Michigan State squad in overtime.
However, North Dakota has been the better team throughout the season and should pull away in a convincing victory.
Prediction: Michigan and North Dakota meet in the championship game.
