Robert Griffin III Talks 'Goal' of Playing for USA Flag Football Team in 2028 LA Olympics on Video

Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III is eager to potentially capitalize on his opportunity to win a gold medal in flag football at the Summer Olympics.

In an interview with TMZ Sports, Griffin reflected on how the Summer Games are a door he and others always thought would be closed to American football players. He said his "goal" is to qualify for Team USA in Los Angeles.

"I want to go for gold with Team USA, and I'm just going through every single step to make that happen and respecting these guys and respecting the flag football community along the way," he said at the 8:18 mark.

Griffin said he's not focusing solely on playing quarterback because flag football requires players to cycle through multiple positions on offense.

When the sport was officially added to the 2028 schedule, fans immediately imagined assembling a dream team of NFL stars. Imagine having Lamar Jackson, Bijan Robinson, Ja'Marr Chase and Patrick Surtain II all on the same side.

The Fanatics Flag Football Classic provided a bit of a reality check as the Team USA squad outplayed teams that included some heavy hitters from the gridiron.

Griffin at least knows he has to put in the time to prove himself and earn a spot for L.A. It's not as simple as being a decorated NFL player and immediately dominating in a flag football format.

No longer being in the NFL could help in that regard as RG3 can devote more energy toward that pursuit. The 2011 Heisman Trophy winner last played in 2020, appearing in four games for the Baltimore Ravens.
