Paige Makes WWE Return, Teams Up With Brie Bella to Win Women's Tag Titles at WrestleMania 42

After eight years away from the WWE ring, Paige made her triumphant return and teamed with Brie Bella to win the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships against now ex-titleholders Nia Jax and Lash Legend, Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss and Bayley and Lyra Valkyria in a Fatal 4-Way tag team match on Night 1 of WrestleMania 42 on Saturday.

Before the match, The Bella Twins had an announcement. Nikki Bella had an ankle injury that would keep her from competing, but she said she called on an old friend to take her place.

That wrestler was two-time WWE Divas champion Paige, who received a thunderous ovation from the crowd at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Paige got a showdown with Charlotte Flair in the middle of the ring, setting up a moment between the two former rivals.

Later in the match, Nikki Bella attacked Flair with her crutch, which distracted Alexa Bliss as she was about to hit the Twisted Bliss on Paige in a cleared-out ring.

Bliss got the attempt off anyway, but Paige got her knees up to defend the attempt. She then hit The Goddess with the RamPaige for the victory.

Jax and Legend previously defeated Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky to become the women's tag champs in February, which instantly put a target on their backs in the eyes of every other women's tag team in WWE.

In the weeks that followed their title win, The Irresistible Forces defended the titles on multiple occasions against different teams.

It started with a match against Flair and Bliss that was interrupted by The Bella Twins, who were watching from ringside, as Brie made her WWE return at Royal Rumble, leading to her and Nikki announcing their intention to become tag champs for the first time.

The Bellas then received a title opportunity of their own, but Charlotte and Alexa got some payback by interfering in that match and causing a no-contest.

After Bayley lost a Women's Intercontinental Championship match to AJ Lee, Valkyria convinced her that they should join forces once again and try to become women's tag team champions.

They were given a title match on the March 30 edition of Raw, but Nikki, Brie, Charlotte and Alexa all got involved, causing the bout to end in a disqualification.

With three accomplished and star-studded teams all having the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships firmly in their crosshairs, the decision was then made to settle things with a Fatal 4-Way tag bout at WrestleMania.

Because of that, the reign of Jax and Legend was in major jeopardy, as they didn't even have to be the ones to get pinned or submitted in order to lose the titles.

In the end, Paige and Brie prevailed at The Showcase of the Immortals to become the women's tag team champions.
