The 90th edition of The Masters will begin on Thursday, and the event promises to bring plenty of drama to Augusta National. However, things will be a little more lighthearted on Wednesday, as some of the sport's best compete in the annual par-3 contest.

Introduced in 1960, the Par-3 contest has served as a fun and relaxing way to lead into The Masters itself. Golfers are often accompanied by family members on the nine-hole, par-27 course, and the experience is often more important than the results.

This year's par-3 contest should be no different. Here's what you need to know to experience the event at home.

Fans of high-stakes golf will enjoy The Masters. It's the first major of the 2026 season, and it will carry a total prize purse of $20 million. Wednesday's par-3 contest will not feature high-stakes golf.

However, fans who simply want to watch pros have a little fun will have a chance to do exactly that. From Masters.com:

"This beloved event, held on Wednesday of Tournament week and now televised around the world, is above all a family affair. Wives and girlfriends, children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews-all happily serve as caddies. The sight of toddlers, outfitted in miniature Augusta National jumpsuits, toting a light bag or tending a flagstick more than twice their height brings smiles to onlookers near and far."

The par-3 contest is a tradition that matters to the players involved.

"There has been so many great family moments over the years at the Masters, one that jumps to mind is when my son was about 3 years old and caddied for me in the Par-3 Tournament," Trevor Immelman said, per Adam Schupak of Golfweek.

The event should also provide some memorable moments for fans. Over the course of its history, the par-3 contest has featured 115 holes-in-one. Keegan Bradley, Tom Hoge, and Brooks Koepka each recorded one during last year's competition.

With Nico Echavarria winning last year's contest, we still haven't seen a golfer win the par-3 contest and The Masters in the same week. Rory McIlroy, of course, won The Masters last year, completing his career grand slam. The tournament was capped by a tense final round, during which McIlroy battled back from multiple mistakes to defeat Justin Rose in a playoff.

The tensions won't be high on Wednesday, but the collective spirits of everyone involved will.
