The New York Mets will be without star slugger Juan Soto for the next few weeks.
The Mets announced on Monday that Soto has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to a right calf strain, which typically requires two to three weeks of recovery time.

Soto suffered the injury while running the bases in the first inning of Friday's game against the San Francisco Giants. Per ESPN's Jorge Castillo, he underwent an MRI on Saturday and told reporters that the injury felt similar to the left calf injury he suffered in July 2022, when he was able to play the very next day. Unfortunately, it turned out to be more serious than that.
Soto has played in over 150 games in each of the last four seasons. He hasn't been placed on the injured list for a non-COVID reason since May 2021, when he was sidelined for two weeks with a strained left shoulder while playing for the Washington Nationals.
In eight games this season, Soto was off to a strong start, hitting .355 with one home run and five RBI. The Mets improved to 6-4 after winning the last three games of their four-game series against the Giants.
Jared Young replaced Soto in left field in the last two games against San Francisco. Castillo noted that Tyrone Taylor and Brett Baty are the other options to fill his spot while he's sidelined.
The Mets will have Monday off before beginning a three-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks (5-5) on Tuesday.
