Reese's first competitive game against her old team will be June 9 in Chicago. That's going to be an atmosphere on par with Luka Dončić's first trip back to play the Dallas Mavericks following his trade to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Reese was a fan favorite from the moment she arrived in the 2024 WNBA draft, and her performance on the court added to her popularity. She set a double-double record as a rookie and is averaging 14.1 points and 12.9 rebounds through her first two years.
The 6'3" forward was also a bright spot for a franchise that has grown increasingly weary. Longtime followers of the team will recall Sylvia Fowles and Elena Delle Donne exiting Chicago. More recently, the championship-winning squad from 2021 was almost totally dismantled within two years.
When the Dream head to Chicago in early June, Wintrust Arena is bound to be a partisan crowd, one largely unified against the home team as a show of defiance toward the front office.
