Fantasy Booking the Ultimate WWE vs. AEW Match Card

Chris MuellerApr 8, 2026

Over the last decade, professional wrestling has changed in a lot of ways, but the biggest difference has been promotions working together instead of against each other.

In the past, All Elite Wrestling has worked with TNA and NWA, and it currently has partnerships with NJPW and CMLL while also owning ROH.

WWE has established a working relationship with Pro Wrestling NOAH, deepened its collaboration with TNA over the past year, and announced its acquisition of AAA in 2025.

AEW has Forbidden Door as a co-branded event, and WWE has Worlds Collide. However, the one show it seems like we might never get is WWE and AEW working together, and that makes some fans want it even more.

Let's take a look at the best lineup that could be created with the current rosters while trying to avoid most of the combinations that have already been endlessly debated.

MJF vs. Roman Reigns

1 of 12
Monday Night RAW

MJF is the world champion in AEW, so it would be easy to just pair him up with one of WWE's top champions, but he has already faced both CM Punk and Cody Rhodes prior to them leaving AEW, so that just feels repetitive.

Someone who is undoubtedly a main event star and would give MJF a fantastic match is Roman Reigns.

The Tribal Chief and MJF are both cinematic wrestlers. They keep the crowd involved, and they make sure their matches have big, memorable moments.

The Devil vs. The Tribal Chief sounds like a money-making match no promoter could pass up.

Cody Rhodes and CM Punk vs. The Young Bucks

2 of 12

Cody Rhodes and CM Punk's friendship has been established in WWE, and if neither man is going to face MJF, they need something different.

Having WWE's two top champions fight two of the guys who helped launch AEW would be the next best thing.

The main thing that would make this interesting is the added layer of history due to Punk and Rhodes being former AEW mainstays.

Even without that story to back up the match, this would still be the kind of bout that would make an entire arena of fans ecstatic.

Granted, real-life history might prevent this match from happening, but we're fantasy booking here, so in this hypothetical scenario, everyone manned up, shook hands and agreed to have a good match.

Thekla vs. Rhea Ripley

3 of 12
SmackDown

Out of everyone on both rosters, the two women who bring the most chaotic energy are Thekla and Rhea Ripley.

The Toxic Spider has climbed the ranks in AEW to become women's world champion, and The Eradicator is a multi-time titleholder in WWE who may be on her way to another win at WrestleMania.

Their size difference would make Thekla the underdog, but her brand of mayhem would even the playing field.

Throw in Julia Hart, Skye Blue and Iyo Sky for some additional shenanigans, and you have the formula for a match that would entertain the masses.

Kenny Omega vs. Gunther

4 of 12

The God of Wrestling vs. The Ring General certainly has a nice ring to it, but the tagline on the poster is only one reason why this match would rule.

Omega is widely considered a generational talent, and Gunther is one of the best WWE has right now. These two could create magic in the ring.

Omega's mix of high-flying and technical wrestling would contrast Gunther's striking and powerhouse tactics nicely.

This may sound like a random pairing to some, but think about it for a moment and try to tell us this match wouldn't be amazing and sell tons of tickets.

Will Ospreay vs. Kyle Fletcher vs. Ilja Dragunov vs. Carmelo Hayes

5 of 12
SmackDown

If you were asked to pick the top two best bell-to-bell performers in AEW and WWE, who would you choose?

For many fans, Will Ospreay, Kyle Fletcher, Ilja Dragunov and Carmelo Hayes would be common picks. All four have worked hard to establish themselves as some of the best workers in the business today.

Pitting them against each other in a Fatal 4-Way bout is a simple but easy way to ensure you have a Match of the Year candidate on your card.

Ospreay and Fletcher have years of shared history, and Hayes and Dragunov have been carrying SmackDown with some of the best matches on the show in recent memory. Together, these four men would outshine everyone.

Willow Nightingale vs. Bayley

6 of 12

Willow Nightingale and Bayley are two of the most important women in their respective companies, but what makes this combination even better is how their characters line up.

In some ways, Willow is a reflection of what The Role Model used to be. She is much closer to the Hugger version of Bayley than the current version.

Even though she has changed her character over time, Bayley is still one of the most beloved stars in the division because she has done so much to help women's wrestling.

Putting these two in the ring for a babyface vs. babyface encounter would be so much fun.

Jon Moxley vs. Seth Rollins

7 of 12
Monday Night RAW

The temptation to put the two former Shield teammates in a match would be too great to ignore.

Jon Moxley and Seth Rollins are both very different than they were the last time they interacted, so this would be a completely different atmosphere.

Mox has established himself as a dangerous fighter willing to go to lengths most men won't go to achieve a win, and Rollins has been elevated into one of the top stars in all of WWE.

The story would write itself, and the match would definitely be one of the best of the night. There is no downside to booking this bout.

Orange Cassidy and Darby Allin vs. Je'Von Evans and Trick Williams

8 of 12

If a supershow like this were to take place, some of the matches wouldn't be able to be built up properly, so we would end up with some random pairings just to ensure popular stars are on the card.

Orange Cassidy and Darby Allin are two of AEW's most popular acts, while Je'Von Evans and Trick Williams represent the next wave of WWE talent coming through.

This match would be simple. It would showcase four talented workers who each have their own unique style inside the ring. It doesn't need to be more complicated than that.

The Brawling Birds vs. The Kabuki Warriors

9 of 12
Monday Night RAW

One of the great things about both WWE and AEW is the wealth of talent from across the globe who have found success in each company.

Jamie Hayter and Alex Windsor vs. Asuka and Kairi Sane would give us a great showdown that highlighted British Strong Style vs. Japanese Strong Style.

All four of these women have been celebrated for their skills, so putting them all in the ring together for a good old-fashioned brawl would make for a great match.

Women's tag team wrestling is currently on the rise in both promotions, so making sure it's featured is a must.

Mercedes Mone vs. Charlotte Flair

10 of 12
SmackDown

Mercedes Mone and Charlotte Flair have always been associated with each other by being part of the Four Horsewomen of NXT, but they have both grown a lot since then.

The Belt Collector facing the most decorated women's champion in WWE history is a marquee match on any card.

This show is about WWE vs. AEW, but when you sell a show, you want some of the matches to be based in the history between the two competitors. This one is perfect for that because both women have done so much together and as individuals.

This bout gives you the perfect combination of shared history, in-ring ability and star power. You could sell a card from this match alone and people would be excited.

FTR vs. The Usos

11 of 12

The Usos and FTR have battled several times in WWE before, but these are two very different teams from when they last met in 2020.

Now, Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler are pillars of the tag team division in AEW, one of the most successful tag teams in modern history, and the current tag team champions.

The Usos' reputation speaks for itself. They are one of the most recognizable and beloved tag teams in WWE. They've done everything there is to do, and both men have established their own unique identities.

These two teams would produce a memorable and engaging contest that puts butts in seats and highlights how great tag team wrestling truly is.

Toni Storm vs. Becky Lynch

12 of 12
2025 TCM Classic Film Festival Opening Night Screening Of "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back"

As two of the most successful and popular women in their respective promotions, Becky Lynch vs. Toni Storm is an easy match to book, but there is another incentive to it.

Both of these women have been wrestling for some time. Storm began her journey in 2009, and Lynch started training in 2002. In the 17 years that both have been active, they have never shared a ring.

No tag team matches, no Royal Rumbles, nothing. They both worked for WWE at the same time, but their paths never crossed for a single encounter.

The Man and Timeless Toni are already both icons, and having the opportunity to put them together for the very first time at this stage in their careers would be too good to pass up.
