Juan Soto Gives Injury Update After Exiting Mets vs. Giants with Calf Strain

Zach BacharApr 4, 2026

New York Mets star Juan Soto provided an update regarding his calf strain on Saturday.

"Right now, just a minor strain," Soto told reporters (0:12 mark). "We're gonna be going day by day and see how it feels. Definitely no decisions made yet. We're going to see how I wake up the next couple of days and go from there."

He also confirmed that a decision hasn't been made for a potential stint on the injured list.

Soto suffered the injury while running the bases in the first inning of the Mets' 10-3 win over the San Francisco Giants on Friday.

He was then removed from the game due to right calf tightness.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza expressed concern over Soto's injury after the win.

"There's obviously concern," Mendoza said, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN). "The calf area could be tricky. We've just got to wait, but there's obviously concern."

"He felt something," he added. "As he was standing at third base, he continued to get tight."

The four-time All-Star underwent an MRI on Saturday.

Soto is beginning the second season of a 15-year, $765 million contract that he signed with the Mets as a free agent in Dec. 2024.

He was productive at the plate during his first year in New York, racking up 20 doubles, 43 home runs, 105 RBI and 127 walks while posting a .921 OPS. Soto also finished with 38 stolen bases, tied for the most in the National League.

This season, he amassed two doubles and five RBI in eight games to go along with a .355/.412/.516 slash line. The Mets have opened their 2026 campaign with a 4-4 record.

Until Soto is able to return, Tyrone Taylor and Jared Young are candidates to replace him in New York's outfield.
