BS Meter on iShowSpeed's WrestleMania 42 Role, Chris Jericho Rejecting WWE and More Rumors

Chris RolingApr 4, 2026

WWE seriously ramped things up on the build to WrestleMania 42 over the last week or so and the rumor mill has responded in kind.

Sudden title changes, major acknowledgment of things fans want (like Oba Femi vs. Brock Lesnar), and some shocking, unexpected stuff like LA Knight attacking streamers in their homes off WWE television, have really set the tone.

The rumor mill is more than happy to play its role, of course. One bit of buzz features a guy by the name of The Rock, while other rumblings detail injury returns, what's going on with John Cena and more.

To help fans keep up with the uptick in pace, let's throw the biggest rumors on the BS Meter, with 10 being the highest form of unbelievable buzz fans can safely dismiss.

Is the Rock calling?

SmackDown

The Rumor

Fans still have an appetite for this, it seems. Despite speculation, Wrestling Observer Radio's Dave Meltzer (h/t Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats), says it isn't The Rock calling Randy Orton.

Reaction

One would think the way Rock dropped everything and hurt storylines would have fans tired. One would also think they're tired of gimmicks like what's in the box? And who's on the phone? Alas, here we are.

BS Meter: 1

It doesn't matter who actually ends up on the phone…it isn't The Rock. WWE is scrambling so badly for attention for this 'Mania that they just pulled John Cena out of retirement too early to have him host. They aren't going to hide the fact that they've got The Rock for the show behind a phone gimmick with Orton.

Bron Breakker update?

Monday Night RAW

The Rumor

Is Gunther vs. Seth Rollins a product of injuries to other stars? According to Meltzer (h/t Ortman), Bron Breakker is actually medically cleared, but they didn't want to do his match with Rollins without an actual television build this late in the game before 'Mania.

Reaction

To all involved's credit, Gunther attacking Rollins to set up a 'Mania feud is very last-second and came out of nowhere. It's going to be fantastic, no doubt, but the two hadn't been around each other, so speculation about why is only reasonable.

BS Meter: 1

This is actually a really measured approach by WWE. They can't have this much personal stuff between Rollins and Breakker and handwave it off without a build before a match. Good call, really.

John Cena plans

Apple TV Press Day

The Rumor

Speaking of Cena, he's back and it's jarring, right? According to WrestleVotes (h/t Cageside Seats' Cain A. Knight), there were no plans for this when he retired last year. Wrestling Observer Live's Bryan Alvarez (h/t Knight) said this is a "panic move" thanks to the not-great 'Mania ticket sales.

Reaction

It certainly feels inauthentic, like they hit a break-glass-in-case-of-emergency button. And it's pretty wild to think that Cena popping up as a host is going to move the needle that much on expensive tickets, anyway.

BS Meter: 1

From the second this was announced, it felt like the most obvious panic reach possible. Not that it won't be a good time to see Cena again, but it would be nice to see WWE address the things that lead to panic moves, like poor booking, rather than find emergency solutions.

iShowSpeed update

4 of 5
Monday Night RAW

The Rumor

iShowSpeed's involvement in 'Mania seems inevitable at this point. According to Meltzer (h/t Rajah's Tom Araya), it could be to set up a six-man tag match where he teams with Logan Paul and Austin Theory against LA Knight and The Usos.

Reaction

The popular streamer took a great spear a while ago, but indeed, it's probably best if he gets stuffed into tag matches for now. That's especially the case if this is a short-notice thing as WWE fills out the card.

BS Meter: 5

Then again, Knight just went viral for throwing Speed through his streaming setup, so a singles match could be fun. Fans can't go wrong with his involvement either way, compared to how middling some celebrity involvement is.

Chris Jericho return details

AEW On TNT At New York Comic Con 2019

The Rumor

Chris Jericho is back and so are the litany of rumors around him. According to PW Insider (h/t Knight), most backstage believe he signed a new deal before making his big return.

Reaction

Meltzer (h/t Knight) had repeatedly said in the past that WWE wanted Jerhico back for a retirement run. It's natural to draw a line to the conclusion, then, that he's not as close to retiring as outsiders might think.

BS Meter: 1

Everyone gets a break from the Jericho rumors for a nice long while now. There was fun little buzz around the Royal Rumble and otherwise that he might be going back to WWE, but he's clearly where he wants to be for the foreseeable future.
