Randy Orton's Mystery Caller Revealed in WWE SmackDown Video as Cody Rhodes Attacked, Called Out
Pat McAfee has been revealed as the mystery caller who has been guiding the sinister actions of Randy Orton as he prepares for his match against champion Cody Rhodes for the WWE Universal title at WrestleMania 42.
In sum, McAfee jumped into the ring in St. Louis, Orton's hometown, and began attacking Rhodes, including a kick to the midsection. Orton then got hold of a folding chair and began hitting Rhodes.
McAfee, who had been taking time away from WWE, had said in an interview on his Instagram on March 8 that he felt the business had passed him by.
Well, on SmackDown Friday, McAfee pointed to Rhodes as a driving problem for the current state of the WWE business.
On the March 13 edition of SmackDown, Orton made a shocking heel turn and attacked Rhodes, who was left bloodied and battered at the announcers' table.
Fans first saw Orton speaking to an unknown person on the phone during the March 16 episode of Raw. Orton has since said this person has motivated his actions as he travels the Road to WrestleMania.
On Wednesday, Orton showcased another phone call, teasing that the mystery caller would appear at SmackDown two days later.
It didn't take long for fans to find out the caller's identity, and Orton got a big attack in on Rhodes with WrestleMania just two weeks away.
In the aftermath of the attack, McAfee and Orton were seen walking backstage to a white pickup truck. McAfee made clear they were looking to save the business, and he also told Orton that he belonged in the GOAT conversation.
WrestleMania 42 will take place in Las Vegas on April 18 and 19. The Rhodes-Orton match is one of eight title fights currently on the card.
